Watch last year's video for Passenger Transport Conference 2008, featuring a Keynote Address from former Secretary of State for Transport Geoff Hoon.

This premiere event provides a unique opportunity to debate and share cross-sector knowledge and best practice with the foremost experts in this field.

Since last year’s conference we have seen a number of significant changes taking place in the sector. Whilst back then we were digesting the contents of the Local Transport Act 2008, this year’s conference will explore the impact of the Act to date. This will include analysing the changing role of England’s six former PTAs, renamed Integrated Transport Authorities earlier this year, and progress towards delivering a ‘new era’ for integrated passenger transport both in the city regions and all local communities.

The implications of host city Manchester’s Transport Innovation Fund bid and the subsequent announcement by the government of £1.4 billion in transport investment will be examined with relation to the future of regional transport funding. We look forward to hearing from Richard Leese, Leader of Manchester City Council, who will outline plans for the funding and progress in delivery of a package of transport improvements.

The event will also provide an opportunity to debate future passenger transport planning and delivery strategies, in the light of guidance published during the last year including ‘Delivering a Sustainable Transport System’ and the Door-to-Door Journeys Working Party’s report. Sustainability is high on the agenda following the publication of ‘Delivering a Sustainable Transport System’ and the announcement that England is to get its first ‘sustainable travel city’ benefiting from £29m investment over the next three years.

Themes covered at this conference will include:

The impact of the Local Transport Act 2008
• From PTAs to ITAs – what tangible changes and benefits and we seeing?
• TIF and the future of locally-driven road charging
• High Speed 2 – the case for and against
• Electrification regional priorities
• Investment to encourage greener travel choices
• Urban transport strategy
• Community transport investment
• Bus passenger satisfaction and the expanded role of Passenger Focus
• Increasing capacity – inc North of England Rail Hub campaign case study
