Advocating an holistic approach to community development, taking into consideration economic, social and cultural trends, this year's conference and exhibition - Sustainable Communities 2008: A Shared Strategy for the Future - will address the impact of the latest Government legislation and strategies initiated to support this development process.
Church House Conference Centre in Westminster will play host to circa 400 senior, corporate-level decision-makers from the public and private sectors, including elected members, the Third sector and the wider community, in order to discuss the key challenges ahead.
This conference follows an unprecedented period of change and development – with the publication of the Homes and Regeneration Bill, Energy Bill, Planning Bill and the Climate Change Bill – and an ever-increasing emphasis on shared knowledge and partnership delivery, aligning current strategies with the impact of the Local Government White Paper and new Performance targets underpinning the devolution of power to local government and communities.
Consequently, this year, the focus for the Conference will be on A Shared Strategy for the Future , with debate around the key themes for establishing strong and prosperous Sustainable Communities, including:
- Leading the Way Forward – Strategies for Effective Leadership
- Enablers of Partnership Working – Local Strategic Partnerships, Local Area Agreements, Multi-Area Agreements
- Cohesion, Equality and Social Justice
- Community Empowerment
- The Eco-Challenge – Building Sustainable Homes and Communities
- Spatial and Strategic Planning
- Delivering Economic Prosperity – The Role of Regeneration and Investment
- Regional Overview – Regional Improvement and Efficiency Partnerships
- The impact of the Sustainable Development Agenda
Sustainable Communities 2008: A Shared Strategy for the Future will provide a detailed overview of the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead.
BURA – The British Urban Regeneration Association
Engage, Connect, Influence - The British Urban Regeneration Association, (BURA), facilitates the rapid exchange of ideas, experience and solutions within regeneration. BURA is acknowledged as the leading independent organisation championing regeneration.
Non-core funded, its unique strength derives from its wide range of members in the private, public and community sectors; this distinguishes it from any other sector interest group.
Additionally, we offer members national and regional networks, dynamic training, seminars and conferences plus debates and forums covering key issues of the regeneration agenda. We also conduct independent cross-sectoral research and through our award schemes, we identify and celebrate best practice in regeneration, promoting the lessons learnt from our winners which range from large-scale schemes to small, community-based Projects.
