A selection of interactive seminar sessions, providing an opportunity for delegates to explore distinct aspects of key importance to the transport sector:
Seminar A
Cambridge Consultants - 2013: creating a better journey
New opportunities need to be unlocked if the transport sector is to avoid a negative impact of the economic downturn. This requires innovative solutions that balance travellers’ desires for better journeys with the commercial transport sector’s need for profitable business, and which considers the overarching need for carbon efficiency and social inclusion.
Organisations recognise the challenges and opportunities presented by sustainability issues and more innovative businesses see potential to more effectively address them and by so doing safeguard their own revenue streams. This seminar session presents three clear themes that offer real avenues for pragmatic solutions that will create better journeys.
Seminar B
E C Harris - From Policy to Delivery – A Case Study Approach
The conference session - From Policy to Delivery – identifies the need for more effective ways of delivering capital projects and utilising existing assets. This seminar will take these themes and will provide case study examples for airports, highways and railways that illustrate ways of driving value for money from procurement, construction and operation of new and existing assets.
It is structured to elicit observations and comment from the audience to provide insight into what approaches could be applied in the future.
Seminar C
Parsons Brinkerhoff - Delivering Major Transportation Projects The presentation will focus on the measures to be taken to ensure major transportation projects are delivered successfully. The presentation will consider the subject from both the client’s perspective in terms of the different procurement options available and from Parsons Brinckerhoff’s experience as a specialist provider of programme management and design services. The risks inherent in the delivery of complex multi-disciplinary projects from contract definition to final commissioning will be discussed. Included in the presentation will be a number of case studies drawn from PB’s experience of working with the range of stakeholders typically encountered on large light rail schemes.
Seminar D
RIB Software - Construction Process Integration
The presentation will highlight the benefits and competitive advantages of an integrated approach to digital construction through optimised processes and team collaboration. It will demonstrate the latest advances in integrated cost management (RIB CSuite®) and civil engineering software (STRATIS®) applications for major transport projects, providing full ‘design to build’ cost management and project control, including automatic generation of detailed quantity take-offs from ‘as-built’ plans. The presentation will conclude with a glimpse of the future with construction process integration. RIB is the only company in the world offering integrated software solutions for the whole construction life-cycle.
